SSI is 9 Years Old!

Celebrating 9 Years of Activism!

9 years ago today, Students Supporting Israel was first registered as a student club at the University of Minnesota.

SSI was registered following the Israeli “Apartheid” week events on campus as no students or student organizations countered a week full of hateful events that spread antisemitism and attacked the core of Israel’s existence. Many at the time said that starting a club named Students Supporting Israel was too “provocative”.

On March 12, 2012 SSI was a registered student club on campus. On November 2012 as the new academic year has started, the Israeli Defense Force entered Gaza to protect the Israeli south from thousands of rockets that were aimed at Israeli cities. SSI was hosting demonstrations in support of Israel on campus bringing dozens and later on hundreds of people to proudly wave the Israeli flag against hundreds of anti-Israel protestors who believed that the Jewish people and the Jewish State should not have the right to protect ourselves.

In February 2014 as SSI grew on campus, a wave of BDS resolutions were passing all over the United States — SSI was the first group to propose a pro Israel resolution at the University of Minnesota student government and passing it. Passing the resolution was the turning point for our organization as students from Indiana University and DePaul University started SSI chapters on their campuses. By October of 2014, SSI was operating on 25 college campuses across the United States.

On March 12, 2021, nine years following the establishment of our organization, SSI had operated on over 140 college campuses and and universities working with thousands of students in the United States 🇺🇸, Canada 🇨🇦, Argentina 🇦🇷, France 🇫🇷 Mexico 🇲🇽, Norway 🇳🇴 and Israel 🇮🇱.

It took us 9 years to get to this point, and the road wasn’t always easy. However in SSI, we never looked to the sides, we never paid attention to what was said around us or about us, and we always fully believed and dedicated ourselves to our vision and our only purpose for which we were established — representing the State of Israel and fighting for the Jewish people every single day.

Thank you to the thousands of students who made SSI possible, believed in our ways, and turned us into an international student movement. We wouldn’t be here today without you.

Thank you to all of the people who supported SSI over the years and made our operations possible. It means the world to us.

Thank you to all of our followers who were sharing our story and were fighting with us for the Jewish State on campus, on social media, and in any place that Israel needs us.

We are forever thankful, and a Happy Birthday to Students Supporting Israel.

Pro Israel. Grassroots. Movement.
